Review on the UTG L96/Mk96

When I started to look for a cheap, but powerful sniper rifle I found my self looking down the barrel of an L96.  The only problem is that three different companies made one and it was a hard decision.  The Well L96 came with a scope and bi pod, but was out of my price range.  The AGM was the cheapest in price, but was a little towards the cheap side in quality.  Then there was the UTG.  It came with bi pod and two mags and you could get it in ACU camo, so the cool factor was definitely was on the plus side.  The price was reasonable compared to the Well (almost 40 dollars less).  So I went with the UTG.  When the gun came in I was so eager to get it out in the field.  The gun comes disassembled, but is extremely easy to put together if you read the instructions.  The next thing I had to do is get a scope.  With a budget under 40 dollars I took a trip to the local wally world.  For about 34 bucks I got a  BSA scope and rings.  When  I got home and slapped on the scope and took a few shots with 20 grams bbs I realized that you need to go heavy on the bbs or adjust the scope and hop up.  Being cheap I didn’t get the heavier bbs.  After a few minutes of swearing at the gun I got the scope sighted pretty close to where the shot was going.  So finally I got to reviewing the gun.  I had high hopes for the UTG L96 after watching reviews on Youtube.  When I took it out to a battle to test it, I have to say It felt as if it the gun was made of lead.  It was not a gun you’d want to run around with.  The gun range was was pretty far but the accuracy was nothing to brag about, but not too horribly bad.  Overall I’d have to say the majority of people on Youtube reviewing this gun make this gun look better than it really is.  Also UTG claims it shoots 500 fps, I find that a little unbelievable.  Don’t get me wrong this is a powerful gun, but say this gun shoots a t 500 fps is a little too high.  I would give The UTG L96 overall grade of a  B.  If your buying the UTG over the Well for the price your not saving any money.  With shipping and the price of the scope you will get over 150 buck which is about the price of the Well L96 which will get you free shipping on airsplat, plus the Well is said to out preform the UTG.  

WARNING!- Do shoot at anyone who is dangerously close!  I may have said that this gun isn’t 500fps, but it still will back a punch as my fellow airsofter George found out when I shot him at 3 feet away:)
