Calculating the range of your gun

Have you ever watched a video review of an airsoft gun on Youtube?  Well then, you’ve probably heard the reviewer say that his/her new AEG or sniper can hit a target at some incredible long range.  For example, when I was looking into buying my JG G3A3 I went to Youtube to watch a review.  One of the reviews said it could shoot a target at  ”500 yards”.  Even if the reviewer meant feet It’s still impossible to shoot an airsoft gun that far.  Most airsoft guns that shoot 325-450 fps can only shoot at a maximum 100-150 feet before the BB goes way off from where it was suppose to go.  There are always a few exceptions like those heavily upgraded sniper rifles that shoot .48 grams bbs at 400 fps, but you don’t see those every day.  So how do you calculate what the maximum range or best range of your gun?  There are tons of different ways to do that.  The best way to do this is to download Google Earth.  It’s free so you can’t go wrong.  Once you’ve downloaded the program  type in where ever you shoot your gun.  Then you can use the the ruler tool to measure how far targets you shoot at are.  I noticed that with my aeg that most of the targets I would shoot at were between 80 and 100 feet.  Anything over that was just too far away.  My sniper could shoot 100 to 140 feet.  Google Earth is great  program for calculating range and is great for mapping out your airsoft course.
